Tullamarine locks in three key figures for 2024 EDFL season

Tullamarine has made three significant announcements regarding the 2024 coaching staff as the EDFL club strives for an immediate return to the top.

For the 2024 season, Tullamarine will continue using the same system.

The EDFL team has confirmed that David Connell will continue in his role as head coach in 2019.

Ben Tankard's dismissal from his coaching position a few weeks ago led to the appointment of Connell as temporary coach.

He had stepped down as head coach at the end of the previous season in order to take on the post of club president.

Connell said in a club release, "After a short break from coaching, I am re-energized and super keen to get to work and build this list again to have us back where we belong next season."

The Demons stated, "They have the desire to rise quickly in 2024 and play finals football again, and the coaching selection panel felt David was the best-credentialed person with values aligned with the club to achieve this next season."

The Demons, currently in last place in Division 1, made a trio of announcements, including Connell's reappointment.

Captain Daniel Devine and his second in command, Tim Matson, were also confirmed to have resigned.

Daniel's "outstanding leadership" is credited with keeping the team together during a disappointing season.

Tim Matson has signed on for the upcoming year and will be promoted to vice-captain. We are looking forward to Timmy's continued development, as his performance and leadership in the second half of the year after returning from injury were both career bests.

"The club is confident that with these appointments, we have the right people in place to lead the way in making this club great again."

Tullamarine had a rough 2023 season, going from a preliminary final appearance the year before to a relegation battle.

This coming Saturday, they'll take on Roxburgh Park.
