Geelong Cats: Cam Guthrie reveals his ideal return date
Cam Guthrie, a Cats midfielder, expressed disappointment in his recovery from a foot injury but maintained optimism that he might contribute to the team's finals drive.
The veteran onballer's toe joint problem has kept him out of action since round 6 when it was first reported.
Guthrie has had surgery to try to fix the ongoing issue, but he has missed the last 12 games of football and won't be back until the regular season is through.
Guthrie claimed that there were "positive signs" to be found.
The Good News" In retrospect, I can say, "Not being able to get out on the field much this year has been a frustrating stint for me."
I'm keeping an eye on the final few games of the season in the hopes of making a comeback; I know I want to be there, but I also want to be able to make a real contribution to the club, not just fill in because I've played a lot of football before.
"That's what makes me want to come back and be able to offer something to the team and give something of myself."
Before his toe injury, Guthrie had only missed two games since 2020. He has spent most of the season on the bench in a moon boot, helping the younger Cats midfielders.
He said that it was kind of fun to see Mitch Knevitt, Max Holmes, and Tanner Bruhn, three younger midfielders, get better at what they do.
He said, "I've actually enjoyed the process in a way. I've been honest about my injury, and I've been frustrated, so don't get me wrong on that."
I've really enjoyed being on the sidelines and watching everything unfold.
As much as I can, I'm lending a hand to Shaun Grigg in the middle of the field; he's always receptive to hearing what his teammates have to say.
"At the same time, I don't think I could see myself doing too much coaching, I'm not getting involved too much."
