Geelong Cats 2023: Gary Rohan expected to return as Cam Guthrie makes ‘exciting’ progress

Gary Rohan is expected to be available for selection after being withdrawn from the Cats' Saturday lineup an hour prior to their defeat to Brisbane.

Geelong said that the mysterious Cat failed a fitness test on his ankle during their captain's run, but he is hoping to play this weekend against Fremantle.

Jed Bews, a defender, could also come back from a knee injury that has kept him out for the past three weeks. The Cats will make a decision later this week.

Cam Guthrie's growth as a midfielder has been called "very exciting" by football coach Simon Lloyd. The ball-winner will be added to minor training.

The dual best-and-fairest winner has been out of action since Round 6 with a sore toe, so his return would be huge for the Cats down the stretch.

Lloyd said, "Gary has fully trained this week, and expect him to be available for selection come Saturday against Freo." "Gary got very close to playing last week, he had a fitness test at the Gabba in our captain's run."

The amount of work that Cam has to do has increased dramatically. This is fantastic news for Cam, the club, and our members since he will soon begin taking part in half-time training.

"Jed will train in full tomorrow, and he has also been doing a lot of cross-training. The knee is doing well, but our medical team and coaching team will talk about whether or not he can play this week.

Brandon Parfitt made a strong return to the VFL after having surgery on his hand. He had 27 disposals, seven stops, and kicked a goal. Lloyd praised his professionalism.

While recovering from a foot ailment, promising teenage midfielder Jhye Clark has been teaching from the sidelines at the Victorian Football League level.

Only a few weeks ago, Brandon had surgery on his hand, and now he's back home. He played the entire VFL game against Brisbane, was actively involved in the match, and made it through well, so all credit to his professionalism, he added.

Jhye is "just a little bit behind Cam Guthrie at the moment," according to the team's medical staff. "Jhye will start to run in two sessions' time," they added, "which is really positive."
