EFNL 2023: East Burwood parts ways with coach David Jensen
The Rams have made a surprising decision about their head coach, despite the team's continued hopes of making it to the Division 2 Eastern League playoffs.
David Jensen, the senior coach for EAST BURWOOD, has been let go with immediate effect.
The first-year Rams coach was informed earlier this week that he will not be handed a contract for the upcoming season by the Eastern League Division 2 club.
After an unexpected victory over Knox in the previous round, the team was blown out by Templestowe by 50 points on Saturday.
The club notified the players of the decision on Tuesday night at training, and Jensen was given the option to coach out the rest of the season, but he declined.
It is believed that the club has begun making coaching arrangements for the remainder of the season's games.
The Rams, who are presently sixth with an 8-8 record, have a chance to make it to the finals despite the shocking switch, as they are only one win and percentage point outside of the top five with two rounds left.
Jensen thinks his recent setbacks mean he's doomed.
Jensen admitted that his failure was due in large part to circumstances beyond his control. "Right from Round 1, I had six to twenty-six players unavailable to choose from every week," he remarked.
But the club has already decided, and I wish them the best of luck with it.
After parting ways with Surrey Park as coach in June, Jensen joined the club as a senior assistant in October of last year after working for their Division 2 rivals.
Following his second midseason dismissal from a senior coaching position, Jensen announced his retirement.
After that, I'm done as a coach," he declared.
I've decided that coaching is not worth the time, effort, and inconvenience it causes me and my loved ones.
I refuse to experience this a third time.
The departing coach expressed his best wishes to the Rams' players.
Jensen has remarked, "I sincerely wish all of the players all the success, and they're a great bunch of people."
We have reached out to East Burwood for their thoughts.
