Carlton injury news: Jacob Weitering Cleared Of Concussion While Sam Docherty Shoulder Injury To Be Assessed
Although Jacob Weitering has been given the all-clear after a concussion, the Blues are still holding their breath after Sam Docherty dislocated his shoulder in the second quarter of Friday night's semi-final.
Jacob Weitering, the vice captain of Carlton, has been given the all clear after a concussion, but the Blues are nervously awaiting the results of scans on Sam Docherty's shoulder as they prepare for a preliminary final next weekend against the Brisbane Lions.
Weitering was forced to have assistance getting back up after taking an elbow to the throat while making a tackle on Melbourne forward Joel Smith early in the final quarter of the semi-final that was played on Friday night.
Despite this, he was able to return to the game and finish it out.
On Saturday, at Carlton's rehabilitation session, Docherty reported feeling fine despite the dislocation.
"In my mind, I will be 100 percent for the preliminary final, but we'll see how it goes. We have stuff to get through during the week but I'm feeling good and promising so far," he said.
The Blues insist Weitering was having trouble breathing rather than concussion symptoms, and they say he was given the go light after postgame evaluations.
Carlton's head coach Michael Voss said of his player on Saturday, "He was obviously just struggling to breathe there for a little while."
We're fine with that placement. He was knocked unconscious after taking a blow to the throat. For that reason, I think it's reasonable to pause for a moment. We should survive, so I'm not too worried.
Docherty, who dislocated his shoulder against the Demons in the second quarter, also finished the game.
Voss disclosed that Docherty was "tough as they come" and disclosed that Docherty had played through a calf strain earlier in the season. Voss also disclosed that Docherty had played through a knee injury.
"Many people wouldn't know this, but for three or four weeks there, he was playing with a slight tear in his calf," Voss remarked on SEN radio.
"He just kept coming through for us, and you can't do that if you don't have resiliency."
It is certain that moving forward without him would not have the same satisfying vibe. Therefore, we are going to offer him every possible chance to get up. We place a high premium on his contribution to our team. He has been a very significant figure during the entirety of this trip.
We are obviously holding out hope that he will be able to participate.
Although he is dealing with a collarbone injury, hard-running wingman Blake Acres, who kicked the winning goal against the Demons, is not believed to be in any doubt about taking his spot in the line-up against the Lions. Acres kicked the goal that proved to be the game-winner.
"He'll wake up sore for the next couple of days, and then as the week goes on, it starts to settle down," stated Voss.
Therefore, it is something that must be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. We do not anticipate that he will be unavailable the following week. He needs to get through the beginning of the week with it, and once things have calmed down, he'll be ready to go again.
Harry McKay, a key forward for the Blues who has been out with a concussion, is expected to make his return for the preliminary final. Head coach Luke Voss has dismissed any notion that the 2021 Coleman Medal winner could be overlooked at selection.
"I get somewhat bemused by some of the commentary around Harry," he added. "I have no idea what people are talking about."
"If we are going to move forward, it is essential that we have him on board. Therefore, if he is available, he will be participating in the game.
