AFL Trade 2023: Jack Ginnivan A Hawk After Hawthorn And Collingwood Agree To Swap Future Picks
Collingwood premiership player Jack Ginnivan has been traded to Hawthorn in a complex pick slide that sees the Hawks' pick 33 pushed to pick 39 in exchange for future picks.
The Hawks have convinced Ginnivan to join them in their pursuit of Sam Mitchell's coaching, and Ginnivan is confident that the team has not overpaid for him.
Hawthorn trades away selection 33 as well as its future second and third-round draft picks.
Collingwood trades away pick #39, as well as its future second and fourth-round selections.
It indicates that the Hawks will keep their spot in the second round of the national draft, and they will also work toward acquiring the Lions' future second-round pick in exchange for Brandon Ryan, who was selected midway through the season.
As the Hawks wrap up a busy trade season, they will complete their transaction by sending that selection to the Suns in exchange for Mabior Chol.
This means that Ginnivan will transfer to the Hawks and most likely play in his No. 33 jumper for the Hawks, which was vacated by Tyler Brockman when he joined the Hawks.
However, they have not sacrificed all for Ginnivan and have instead been able to negotiate a fantastic compensation package for Ryan, who joined the club only a few short months ago.
After making an offer to Essendon for pick 63 in exchange for Massimo D'Ambrosio, the Hawks will be able to get Jack Gunston to play as a key forward for their team.
There is also the possibility that he will be signed as a free agent by another team if the Dons decide not to take that pick, despite the fact that Essendon has offered him a three-year rookie contract. Graham Wright, the head coach of the Collingwood football team, stated that the Pies believed Ginnivan had a promising future, but they understood that he needed a new beginning.
"We appreciate and accept Jack's decision to seek further opportunity at Hawthorn," stated Wright. "We wish him the best of luck in his endeavors."
"Over the past three years, Jack has made a huge contribution, which includes being a member of the 2023 Premiership team, which he will always be a part of. Jack is still just 20 years old, which means he has a lot of football left to play in his career. We would like to extend our best wishes to Jack for success in all of his future endeavors on behalf of the whole Collingwood community.
Ginnivan won a flag in his third year with the Pies and kicked 40 goals in his second, leading Hawthorn list chief Mark McKenzie to say that the Hawks believed Ginnivan had a tremendous upside.
McKenzie expressed his delight at Jack's decision to join Hawthorn, a team he has supported since he was a youngster.
We really appreciate his approach to the game; as a forward, he consistently puts points on the board and provides a spark for his team.
After winning a premiership at age 20, the Hawthorn coaching staff said, "We believe he has only scratched the surface of his potential, and we can't wait to see just how high he can elevate his game."
