Palm Beach Currumbin Look To Create AFLQ Schools Cup History When They Do Battle On Friday

One of the most prominent sporting schools on the Gold Coast is currently on the verge of making history. Find out what each of their captains has to say in the lead-up to the major AFL Queensland Schools Cup finals weekend.

Palm Beach Currumbin High School is poised to make its mark on history.

Over the course of the previous ten years, the illustrious Gold Coast Sporting Nursery has established itself as the AFL athletic school in the Sunshine State that has enjoyed the greatest level of success.

But this weekend, they have the opportunity to etch that legacy in stone as the school aims to claim all four secondary school titles at the AFL Queensland Schools Cup finals. Those finals will take place on Saturday.

Between October 13 and October 15, KommunityTV will provide an exclusive live stream of each and every match of the championship series.

WATCH DAY ONE OF THE AFLQ SCHOOLS CUP FINALS

This season, Palm Beach Currumbin has already won a piece of state glory by clinching the Phil Hall Cup, and they will have teams competing in the preliminary finals of the championships for both senior boys and girls as well as junior boys and girls.

According to Neil Mackay, who is the head of sports excellence for the PBC, the talent this year is among the best he has ever seen.

"Our senior boys is a really strong group, they will be the hardest to beat, and they have incredible depth," Mackay said. "Our senior boys are a really strong group."

Because of the caliber of the competition, there are a few exceptionally good players who were not selected for the squad. This is due to the fact that the squad is so strong.

"The other three teams are really strong, but you don't know what the opposition teams are going to be like until you get there," said the coach. "The other three teams are going to be really tough."

This year, our senior boys' squad is going to be really difficult to compete against.

"Our goal for Friday is to win all of our preliminary finals so that all four of our teams will be able to compete in the championship game.

Which we have also been successful at over the past few years.

PBC has made it to the quarterfinals of all four events for the past five years in a row.

Three of PBC's four AFL teams won championships last season, demonstrating the club's sustained strength in the league.

SENIOR BOYS

Prior to their matchup with St. Augustine's College of Cairns in the preliminary final, the captain of the senior boys team, Lachlan Ferguson, stated that there was something really unique about his team.

"Keen to play against St. Augustine's, they took it up to Helensvale, so it will be good to have a bit of a challenge on a Friday," Ferguson said. "They took it up to Helensvale."

"We have a pretty strong side for finals, and Will Graham is participating for the very first time this season.

Everyone is ready to play at that time frame when you play a game that takes place at twilight.

"St. Augustine's is a bit of a dark horse, and we don't really have that much information about them.

We are anticipating that all of the teams that are competing against us will be in close proximity to us and that this will allow us to give them our best shot.

SENIOR GIRLS

On Friday at 3:30 pm, the PBC senior women will begin their season against Marymount College.

Kiara Bischa, captain of the senior girls team, has stated that she plans to have a career-best performance in her pursuit of an AFLW contract.

Bischa: "I've been here since year seven, so I'm hoping I can leave a legacy. It's an honor to lead this team out on Friday."

Going up to Maroochydore to play this weekend is, without a doubt, one of the best weekends in football.

We're looking forward to playing Marymount College because we haven't faced them before.

My number one priority is helping the team win, but I plan to continue doing what I've been doing in preparation for the draft at the end of the year.

"I'd love to stay on the Gold Coast, and the Suns are my favorite team, so fingers crossed that I get drafted to them."

JUNIOR GIRLS

On Friday at 2 p.m., Palm Beach Currumbin's junior ladies will take on Helensvale to kick off the daylong celebration of football.

Willow Fredericks, captain of the juniors, said that facing Helensvale in another championship game is thrilling.

Fredericks remarked, "I expected it to just add to our rivalry together because we haven't played them (Helensvale) in a final in a long time."

We know this will be a challenging game because they are one of the tougher teams we've faced.

Making it back to the championship game demonstrates the continued success of the school program.

Both the junior and senior boys' teams will take the court against St. Augustine's in the evening's opening tip.

JUNIOR BOYS

Jackson Jarvis, captain of the junior lads, remarked that he and Ned Lawton shared a great responsibility.

I've been in the program for three years, so it's great to finally get this chance," Jarvis said.

Now that you're in charge, make an indelible mark on and off the field, and lead by example for the boys.

I'm looking forward to hanging out with the guys and learning more about the institution we're visiting.

The most important thing is to just have fun and focus on having a good time instead of trying to get revenge against them.

"It is really special that all four teams are competing once again in the finals, and I am hoping that this time we can all make it all the way to the championship."
