Alex Jones sings the praises of Tim Castle

As the Sorell team prepares for what could be coach Tim Castle's final game, one of the team's top players has shared why he thinks the team is "on the right track" under Castle's leadership.

Alex Jones, a top player for Sorell, has praised Tim Castle, the team's coach and manager, stating the club is "on the right track" as Castle prepares to leave.

Earlier this month, the club announced that Castle would step down as manager after three seasons but would continue to play for the team until 2024.

Finals football was a reality for the Eagles in 2022 under Castle, and it is still a possibility for this season.

A win on Saturday against Lindisfarne, the penultimate game of the home-and-away season, is still a distant possibility.

Jones praised Castle at a Thursday press conference.

"He's been huge," he proclaimed.

We made the playoffs under his leadership for the first time in years.

Since he has a young family, I believe he is simply exhausted.

Before he arrived, I felt like it was tough for us to lure star players to the club. We signed a number of TSL players either last year or the year before.

With guys like Brock Daniels and Connor Smith, we've had another successful year.

In the past, it appeared to be challenging to recruit men with such a profile. Additionally, his coaching skills have really improved, and he is now an excellent trainer.

He has the team headed in the correct direction.

The Eagles' progress this season has been impeded by injuries, specifically the catastrophic knee injuries sustained by Connor Smith, Isaac Bateman, and Lewis Nicholls.

"We've lost three guys to ACL injuries, and they're all quality players, which hasn't helped us at all," Jones added.

Although it would have been nice to finish a little higher, I still consider this to have been a successful year despite losing a few key players to the TSL.

Fortunately, we were able to get Jacob Sawford from Lauderdale about the same time, and he's proven to be a very capable replacement.

It would have helped to have both of them in the offensive line at the same time.
